The Houston Chronicle published an article about the upcoming ELD mandate, scheduled to take effect on December 18. Writer Chris Tomlinson reached out to Jetco CEO Brian Fielkow to get his thoughts on this mandate. According to Brian, ELDs will have a positive impact on the industry and will further promote safety. You can read the article here.

As you know, we’ve been keeping you informed on this mandate as it approaches. By December 18, substantially all commercial vehicles will be required to have ELDs. You can find out more about this mandate and requirements here. If you have not yet verified that your carrier has ELDs, now is the time.

What happens if I use a carrier that does not have ELDs on December 18?

Don’t panic! The federal government has agreed to delay putting trucks out of service until April 1, 2018. Automotive-Fleet.com recently published an article on this transition period, which can be accessed here.

Between December 18, 2017, and April 1, 2018, the carrier may be subject to a fine, but your cargo will transport as scheduled. Then, starting April 1, 2018, trucks will be placed out of service, which could significantly delay the timely delivery of your cargo.
