Precision Specialized driver recognized with SC&RA Driver Safety Award

By Katharine Mohn

BURFORD, ON. – Precision Specialized Inc. is pleased to announce that David Tallman has received the Driver Safety Award from the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association. SC&RA is an international organization comprising more than 1,350 members from 46 nations.

The SC&RA Driver Safety Award is given to heavy haul drivers who “exhibit exemplary work achievements over a 5-year consecutive period accumulating a minimum of 10,000 hours worked and record zero accidents as defined by the National Safety Council.”

“Safety is always job ONE. In any business, you can never turn a blind eye to it. Tallman is a prime example of eating, sleeping and breathing SAFETY,” said Precision Specialized Director of Safety Brad Hayes. “When you have a mentor like David leading the group, you just know at the end of the day, everyone will be going home to their families safe and alive.”

David comes from a trucking family – he started greasing trucks and trailers at the age of 12 for his grandfather’s company, Tallman Transport, in the Niagara area. During his more than 20 years at Tallman Transport, he learned the ins and outs of driving, hauling flatbeds and then increasingly complex, oversized loads, and designing specialty trailers. He rose through the ranks, eventually running the daily operations as vice president of operations for Tallman Transport. Afterwards, David decided to become an independent owner-operator for five years with his own authority and contracts before selling everything and joining Precision in 2009.

David has been happily married to Tracy for 25 years, is a father of four and has seven grandchildren. When not working, David enjoys woodworking. His preciseness and attention to detail are what makes David great at both his hobby and work.

“It means a great deal to me professionally and personally for Mr. David Tallman to have this honor,” said Precision Specialized President Ed Bernard. “David and I have worked together for more than 12 years. He has and remains my go-to for those loads that make others wince. He is a true professional and the absolute best operator I have ever seen. Congratulations David, you are so deserving of this Safety Award from the SC&RA.”

David previously won Precision Driver of the Year in 2018.

Firms across the United States and around the world submit dozens of entries to the SC&RA Awards competition each year. The Awards program recognizes worldwide excellence in the crane, rigging and specialized transportation industry.
